June was, quite simply, the most wonderful aunt.
She was fun, cheeky, irreverent in the best possible way—and deeply loving, thoughtful, and caring.
June had a gift for making life lighter just by being herself.
She also had a flair for misadventure. If you were with June, chances were you were going to end up with a story—sometimes planned, often not, always memorable.
One of our favourite images of June is from grandad’s 80th birthday celebration (or was it his 90th?), when June turned up dressed as the Queen—wearing a gown made entirely of pink garbage bags. Regal, ridiculous, and completely unapologetic. Honestly, what a queen. That moment captured her perfectly: playful, creative, and delightfully irreverent.
June loved her music. I remember when we went to the Byron Bay Blues Festival together - unforgettable. The music was incredible, the atmosphere was electric, and naturally, there were plenty of misadventures along the way. But that was June—open to experience, ready for fun, and fully alive in the moment.
I’m incredibly grateful to have had her as my aunt. She showed us that life doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful—and that sometimes, a dress made of pink garbage bags is exactly what the occasion calls for.
June will be missed deeply. But she leaves behind joy, laughter, and memories that will always make us smile—and I know that’s how she would want to be remembered.
Eluca and I are both sad not to be there with you today to celebrate June, but we are thinking of her and of all of you.
