 About Us

 Established in 2002, Cloudy Bay Funeral Services is Marlborough’s only locally family-owned funeral home and is proudly owned and operated by David and Ann Buckley.

David and Ann Buckley


David grew up in Marlborough and after pursuing a carpentry career he became involved in the funeral industry in 1996 and saw the opportunity to own his own funeral business in 2002. David has a diploma in funeral services having passed his funeral directing and embalming qualifications. Ann’s family has a long Marlborough history. Her great-grandfather first came to settle in the district in 1890 and purchased a farm property in Rapaura which has remained in the family for five generations. Ann has a Diploma in Secretarial Studies and works in the office, attending to administration and reception duties. David and Ann have two sons, a daughter and three grandchildren.

Janice Pigou


Janice Pigou has been with Cloudy Bay since the time of it’s opening. She is a registered Funeral Director and Griefcare Coordinator. Amongst other things Janice spends her spare time reading, gardening, walking, travelling and in the company of friends and family.

Ryan Pigou


Ryan was born in Blenheim and has remained in Marlborough for most of his life. He enjoys and is grateful to be apart of such a wonderful community as well as the amazing landscape with all that Marlborough has to offer. 
When not working, Ryan enjoys getting out on the Wither hills to exercise, being on the water in the Marlborough Sounds and of course spending quality time with his wife Tracy and son Hamish and extended family. He also is involved in serving in his local church and has enjoyed being 
part of the sporting community in 
Marlborough over the years.
He considers it a great privilege to serve Marlborough families at Cloudy Bay Funeral Services as a Funeral Director.

Jo Renner


Jo started in the funeral industry in Christchurch in 1997, becoming a qualified embalmer in 1999. Moving to Marlborough for a change of lifestyle in 2005, Jo enjoys caravaning, cycling and spending time with family. Jo is the secretary for the New Zealand Embalmers Association and our monumental coordinator, assisting families with memorial stonework.

Steve Scaife


Steve is a valuable member of our staff. He manages the upkeep and beautification of our premises and grounds. Steve comes to us from 47 years in the building industry, running his own building company. He is married with two children and 
two grandchildren.

James Galloway


James, a Marlborough local, joined the Cloudy Bay team in 2025. He has spent the past 20 years working in and owning/managing a number of local businesses. 
James has also been a wedding and
funeral celebrant since 2016, offering care and connection during families’ significant moments.
Outside of work, he enjoys time in his boat on the Wairau River or in Marlborough Sounds, mountain biking in the Wither Hills, playing guitar, travelling, and spending time with his wife Jo and their children, Elijah and Grace.

Gwenda Cavanagh


Gwenda moved to Blenheim with her husband and two children in 1991. She has been with Cloudy Bay since it opened, initially doing admin, then moved onto funeral videos and photo tribute preparation. She enjoys walking her dog, sewing and patchwork and spending as much time as possible with her children, their spouses and four grandchildren.

Katy Campbell


Katy is born and raised in Marlborough and after over 20 years working in pharmacy, is enjoying working in the Cloudy Bay Funeral Services office. Outside work, she values time with her husband, their daughter and two sons, reading and photography.
